Panel Instrument

Panel instruments condition, isolate and convert signals between field devices and controllers. Fibre converters and signal isolators help protect industrial control panels from electrical noise, surges and differences in earth potential.

Fibre is useful for long routes, connections between buildings and cable runs near high-current equipment. It carries data without joining the electrical references of the connected systems.

RS485 transceivers still have a common-mode voltage limit. An isolator separates the electrical references of bus segments where differences in earth potential could exceed that limit.

A loop-powered isolator takes its operating energy from the 4-20 mA loop, so it does not require a separate power supply.

Select an isolator with a linear transfer characteristic and accuracy suited to your measurement. Isolation can remove ground-loop errors that otherwise affect the signal.
