Stratum-1 PTP Time Server, DIN Rail

PreciseSync-GMC-300-D DIN Rail GPS/GNSS PTP Time Server

The PreciseSync-GMC-300-D is a DIN rail mounted GPS and GNSS time synchronisation server built for panels where every centimetre of cabinet space counts. It locks to multi-constellation satellite signals within 15 nanoseconds and distributes that reference as IRIG-B (AM) and PTP Stratum-1 time across SCADA systems, protection relays, IEDs, PLCs and RTUs, so every device on the network timestamps events against the same clock.

PreciseSync-GMC-300-D DIN rail GPS PTP time server for substation control panels

Key Features

Built for Panels Where Time Cannot Drift

Most GPS time servers are designed for 19-inch racks. The GMC-300-D was built the other way round, as a DIN rail device that clips directly into the same enclosure as your relays, RTUs and I/O modules, so control panel builders do not need a separate rack just to bring accurate time onto the bus. Six capabilities carry that compact design without giving up the accuracy a substation or data centre expects.

Multi-Constellation GNSS Reception

The onboard 184-channel parallel tracking receiver locks onto GPS (L1 C/A, L2C), GLONASS (L1OF, L2OF), Galileo (E1B/C), BeiDou (B1I, B2I) and NavIC-IRNSS simultaneously, backed by a 24-channel helical roof-mount antenna rated to IP67. Tracking across five constellations at once keeps a usable fix even where line of sight to any single constellation is partially blocked.

15 ns Lock Accuracy, Engineered Holdover

GNSS lock accuracy of 15 nanoseconds is maintained by a high-stability OCXO as standard, rated to 10 PPB frequency stability. For sites that need to ride through longer satellite outages, an optional rubidium oscillator holds 0.1 PPB stability with holdover drift as low as 1 microsecond over 24 hours, so timestamping stays trustworthy even during a signal interruption.

Stratum-1 PTP and IRIG-B Distribution

Time is handed off two ways: as a Stratum-1 PTP (IEEE 1588v2) stream over a Gigabit or Fast Ethernet RJ45 port, and as an IRIG-B (AM) B125 signal on a 50 ohm BNC output for equipment that still reads amplitude-modulated time code. Running both outputs from one server lets newer Ethernet-based IEDs and legacy relay panels share a single, synchronised time source.

Built-In Fault Monitoring

A 3-pin Form-C alarm relay reports loss of GNSS lock or a power fault directly into the panel's existing alarm wiring, so operators learn about a timing problem the same way they learn about any other panel fault, without watching a separate monitoring screen.

Tested to Substation-Grade Immunity Standards

The server is qualified against the IEC 60068 environmental test series (dry heat, cold, damp heat, vibration), the IEC 61000-4 electromagnetic immunity series (ESD, radiated and conducted RF, surge, fast transient) and IEC 60255-5-0 dielectric strength, the same families of standards applied to protection and control equipment. That makes it suitable for mounting inside the same cabinet as switchgear and protection relays rather than a separate, shielded server room.

Browser-Based Configuration

Setup runs through the Sertel Time Management Suite over an HTTPS/SSL browser connection, so technicians can read GNSS status, set output formats and check holdover state from a laptop on site without installing dedicated client software.

Live signal flow

How the GMC-300-D Keeps a Network on One Clock

Three stages run continuously inside the unit to turn a satellite signal into a timing reference your network can rely on.

  1. 01Receive

The T-GPA-014-S15 roof-mount antenna tracks up to 24 channels across GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and NavIC in parallel, feeding L1, L2 and L5-band signals to the receiver over a BNC connection.

  2. 02Discipline

The incoming GNSS reference disciplines the onboard oscillator, OCXO as standard or rubidium as an option, correcting for drift in real time while building up the holdover reserve the unit falls back on if satellite visibility is lost.

  3. 03Distribute

The disciplined clock is pushed out simultaneously as Stratum-1 PTP over Ethernet and IRIG-B (AM) over BNC, with the front panel LCD and alarm relay reporting lock status throughout.
