GPS / GNSS NTP Time Server

GPS / GNSS NTP Time Server: PreciseSync-SMC-300-R Redundant Multi-Constellation Time Synchronisation Server

The PreciseSync-SMC-300-R is a fully redundant GPS and GNSS time synchronisation server built for networks that cannot afford a gap in timekeeping. Two independent GPS receivers, two master clocks, a comparator unit and dual power supplies work side by side inside one chassis, so the server keeps distributing accurate time even if one path fails. It locks to GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and NavIC signals to within 30 nanoseconds and feeds that time out as Stratum 1 NTP, IRIG-B and 1PPS to substations, data centers, telecom networks and defence systems.

Key Features

Engineered for Continuous, Fail-Safe Time

Most time servers stop working the moment one component fails. The PreciseSync-SMC-300-R is built around the opposite assumption. Every critical section is duplicated and continuously checked, so a single fault never becomes a plant-wide timing outage.

Dual-Path Redundancy

Two complete GPS receive chains, two master clocks and two power supplies run in parallel inside the same 3U chassis. A dedicated comparator unit continuously checks both master clocks against each other and switches to the healthy path automatically, so protection relays, RTUs and control systems never see a break in the time signal.

30 ns GNSS Lock Accuracy

A 184 channel parallel tracking receiver locks onto GPS L1/L2, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and NavIC signals with 30 nanosecond timing accuracy. Acquisition sensitivity of minus 148 dBm and tracking sensitivity of minus 167 dBm keep the server locked even where antenna placement or sky visibility is less than ideal.

OCXO and Rubidium Holdover

A high stability OCXO ships as standard, holding frequency to within 10 parts per billion through short GNSS outages. For sites that need longer autonomy, such as remote substations or enclosed equipment rooms with intermittent sky view, a Rubidium oscillator option extends holdover to roughly 1 microsecond of drift over 24 hours.

Stratum 1 NTP and SNTP

The server operates as a Stratum 1 NTP and SNTP source with multicast and broadcast support. NTP timestamp accuracy at the server stays under 1 microsecond, with client side accuracy depending on network design.

IRIG-B, 1PPS and Fiber Distribution

Time can leave the server as AM or TTL IRIG-B, 1PPS, DCF77, or configurable pulse outputs (1 PPM, PPS, PPD, PPH), or over ST fiber at 820 nanometers for sites where electrical isolation matters. A programmable output section also supports 1.544 MHz, 2.048 MHz and 10 MHz frequency references plus IEC 60870-103/104 for substation automation.

Browser-Based Configuration and SNMP Monitoring

Every setting, from network parameters to alarm thresholds, is reachable through an HTTPS/SSL browser interface or the front panel keypad. SNMP v1, v2c and v3 with trap generation, syslog (RFC 3164 and RFC 5424) and user defined access control lists let IT and OT teams monitor and lock down the server from a central network management console.

Live signal flow

How the PreciseSync-SMC-300-R Keeps Your Network on Time

Three stages, running across two independent paths, turn satellite signals into a time reference your infrastructure can depend on.

  1. 01Receive

Redundant GNSS antennas and receivers lock independently onto GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and NavIC satellites, each feeding its own master clock.

  2. 02Compare

The onboard comparator unit cross-checks both master clocks against each other in real time. If one receiver loses lock or drifts, the server flags it and keeps distributing time from the healthy path without interruption.

  3. 03Distribute

Verified time is pushed out simultaneously as Stratum 1 NTP, IRIG-B, 1PPS, DCF77 and fiber signals, so every downstream device, from a protection relay to a core router, stays on the same clock.
